iPad Mini 6 announced

Design

As was rumored, Apple's iPad mini 6 features an iPad Air 4-inspired design and comes in four gorgeous colors — space gray, pink, purple, and starlight. Its display has been bumped to 8.3 inches, up from 7.9 inches, while retaining the device's small overall footprint. Basically, it's a miniature iPad Air 4 in terms of industrial design.

Display

Alongside the all-new look and increased display size, the new display features have also been improved with 500 nits of brightness, the addition of P3 Wide Color, and True Tone. It also has an anti-reflective screen coating for less glare and a fully laminated display for a more vibrant picture.

Processor

The new iPad mini features the all-new A15 Bionic chip with a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. A15 Bionic allows for 40% faster performance in terms of raw CPU, while GPU performance will jump 80% over the previous generation, according to Apple.

Apple Pencil Support

iPad mini now supports the second-gen Apple Pencil so you can use the same stylus across your iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini devices if you have them. The volume buttons have been moved to the top edge of the device to make room for the Apple Pencil's wireless charging.

USB-C

iPad mini has ditched Lightning with the 6th-generation model instead opting for USB-C like Apple's other premium iPad models. The new connector enables up to 5Gbps data transfer. That's 10x faster than the previous generation model and allows you to hook up all manner of accessories from external storage to cameras and even 4K displays.

Camera improvements

The rear camera has been bumped to 12MP with Focus Pixels and a larger aperture. There's also a True Tone flash on board. The more exciting improvements are on the front, though, with a new 12MP sensor there and a much larger field of view that enables Center Stage for video calls.

Stereo speakers

In addition to display and camera improvements, iPad mini has had an audio overhaul too. It now comes with landscape stereo speakers which will make it a great move-watching or video calling device.
